The deed for the land on which the ABB expansion will take place was recorded at Halifax County’s Clerk Office on Friday March 30th and construction can begin on the new facility. IDA Chairman Larry McPeters said on Friday “after nine months we have finally gotten through all the paperwork.” Executive Director Mike Eades agreed that “we’re finally at the end of the legal road.” Tom Crisan, ABB Project Manager, indicated ABB plans to be in production in the new facility during the first quarter of 2008. The new facility will be ABB’s only second power transformer factory built in North America in the last 50 years and the expansion in Halifax is the single biggest expansion in ABB’s power/technology business worldwide. Burton Construction, the contracting company selected to complete the expansion is ready to begin. Brian Burton indicated the project will employ 90-100 construction workers and the majority of sub-contractors will be from Halifax County. Wanda Blythe ABB’s Human Resources Manager indicated the company will be hiring professional employees in waves and positions will be listed on their website at www.abb.com. Additionally she stated that ABB plans to run ads in area newspapers for hourly positions.
