Huber Engineered Woods, LLC Announces Expansion of Crystal Hill Facility

(Halifax County, VA) Huber Engineered Woods, LLC and the Industrial Development Authority of Halifax County, Virginia, are pleased to announce an expansion of Huber’s oriented strand board (OSB) facility in Crystal Hill, Virginia. The total investment is estimated at $19 million

and is scheduled to begin late in 2005 with completion in early 2006.

The first step of the project provides for the design and improvement of the existing drying and environmental abatement systems to be approved by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Permit requirements will be met and necessary amendments obtained to ensure compliance. Additional investments will include improvements to log handling and utilization of log resources. Other upgrades will improve the existing infrastructure in various areas inside the facility. The improvements are designed to lower costs and enhance the availability of the highly sought after AdvanTech® Flooring, Sheathing, and Rim Board.

The Crystal Hill facility was constructed in 1994 and employs 160 people. While the project will create few new jobs, several employees will receive training for upgraded positions in the plant. In addition, numerous jobs will be created during the construction phase.

Crystal Hill Plant Manager Jeremy Catron expressed appreciation to Halifax County for its ongoing support of Huber. “The Halifax Opportunity Fund program offered by Halifax County was a key ingredient in helping Huber justify this investment,” Catron explained.

Halifax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Wiliam Fitzgerald thanked Huber for its ongoing support of the County. “We appreciate the confidence that Huber has in Halifax County and its people as demonstrated by this announcement,” Fitzgerald said. “The timing of this announcement during Business Appreciation Week in Virginia is particularly noteworthy as we celebrate the importance of existing business to our local economy,” Fitzgerald added.

Huber Engineered Woods LLC operates four other facilities located in Easton, ME; Commerce, GA; Whites Creek, TN; and Broken Bow, OK.
