The Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel broke ground on its new hotel Thursday, April 24, 2008 in Halifax County, Virginia. The hotel will be located on Highway 58 (Bill Tuck Highway) between Highway US 360 and 501 beside Slagle’s Fire Equipment & Supply Company, Inc. The hotel will accommodate 86 rooms, a conference room, an outdoor patio, and an indoor pool. The hotel will create 22-25 new jobs.

Operating Managers are Dennis Truitt and John Ferguson and partner John Cannon. The hotel is projected to be completed in ten months. “The community has a commitment to excellence,” stated John Ferguson. One of the key reasons for locating in Halifax County was “all the US highways that come together in the surrounding location” noted Ferguson. He commended the progressiveness of Halifax Regional Hospital as well as noting the events going on at South Boston Speedway, Virginia International Raceway, and The Prizery. Interim Executive Director Patsy Vaughan noted “the hotel is the third new location to announce in the Halifax County newly designated Enterprise Zone.” “We are extremely excited about coming to the area and look forward to being a good corporate citizen” Ferguson said.

Marriott-Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel was launched over 20 years ago, and today there are more than 535 Fairfield Inn and Suites. Most are in suburbs or near highways, but more and more are popping up in downtown areas. The brand serves business travelers during the week and vacationers and families on the weekend.
