Tobacco Commission grants $1.3 Million to Institute for VIPER program
DANVILLE – The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) received approval of a $1.3 million grant from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission on July 22, 2004.
Halifax County’s Vision 2020 process received a boost from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration. Congressman Virgil Goode, U.S. House of Representatives 5th District, presented a check in the amount of $35,000 to Joe Satterfield, Chairperson of the Vision 2020 Steering Committee on Wednesday, July 28.
RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner announced today that Harrisonburg, Luray, and South Boston have been officially designated as Virginia Main Street communities.

Destination Downtown South Boston has been designated as an accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous performance standards set by the National Main Street Center, Destination Downtown South Boston Executive Director Tamyra Vest announced Friday. 
Each year, the National Main Street Center and its partners announce the list of accredited Main Street America programs to recognize their exemplary commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach.
